ABSTRACT
From primitive nomadic societies to group living, the prototype of cities emerged. With the rapid development of technology and transportation, the emergence of the Internet has provided people with a broader perspective. Modern people have conveniences to travel between physical and virtual territories, enabling them to transform from traditional settled communities to digital nomadic groups. In the new urban situation, people's inner needs for belonging to the city are often ignored due to the influence of commercialization and capitalization, with the physical city too focused on providing external convenience and entertainment for residents.
In the future cities of the fourth industrial revolution of AI and robotics, AI and robots will join human society as a group, and humans will no longer be the only group concerned with the city. With the development and mature application of AI and robotics technology, humans will be gradually liberated from labor and a new balance will be reached. Technological progress will provide people with greater choices and city residents will have more time to reflect on and explore their relationship with the city. They will choose the city that meets their sense of belonging, thus establishing an internal and stable connection with the city.
INTERVIEW
I researched 30 people by using questionnaires and interviews to find out if everyone has a deep-seated sense of belonging to the city.
The results of the research show that twenty-nine people have a sense of belonging to the city, with one describing his sense of belonging as not existing in the existing physical world.
CONTENT
After research and case studies, most modern people cannot choose to live in the city of their heart's desire for reasons of life or money. After reviewing the course of human history and analyzing the rapid development of the modern network, AI, and robotics, I have written a statement of the paper.
ROBOT TYPEFACE
Already in 2023 there will be the beginnings of language communication between robots, such as barcodes. When a person goes to the supermarket to buy an apple, scanning the barcode is the language of communication between the scanner and the computer. Man invented the barcode but cannot decipher it without using the machine.
In the future, as robots become another special kind of 'inhabitant' of the city, helping to free humans from repetitive tasks on a continuous basis, they will also have their own language for communicating with each other.
POSTERS & STAMPS
I selected several cities based on questionnaires and research, and researched city profiles. At the same time, a 'belonging certification department' was set up and a traditional seal was created based on the country of origin.
The poster was inspired by Andy Warhol's 'Campbell's Soup Cans', and when the viewer can recognise the contours and graphics of the city it will break the mechanical reproduction of each person entering the city under the pressure of life.
